Thoughts, post November 6th, 2012

Leading up to the 2012 Election, I had heard much from conservative media about how if the economy is bad, people won't care about social issues. I think the vote says otherwise. There is always a right and a wrong when it comes to morality, despite the shades of gray that lie among that spectrum. It turned out that while the economy is of concern, people were not going to allow that fear stop them from voting to allow the pursuit of happiness for many groups in this country. I find that enormously encouraging.

And let me make on thing clear: I am not deceived by liberal media to believe that Obama does not have inexperience, weaknesses or downfalls - or that he does not partake in politics the same way his Republican counterparts do. And truth be told, if the GOP could divorce themselves from Christianity, the far right and the need to interfere with people's bodies, they wouldn't have lost. Do I believe that Romney had any clearer plan for the economy than Obama did? No. I think both of them are feeling their way blind. But, as Americans, the majority of us stood up for what we believed to be right in allowing people to be free, and we showed that a basic fear of prosperity for ourselves does not come at the cost of human rights for others. That, for me, is where the victory truly lies.

5 Links for Japan:

The following are 5 links to phenomenal and/or thought provoking reporting on the Japan Earthquake in Sendai:

"Why I'm Not Fleeing Japan."  By Paul Bluestein, The Washington Post.

"Japan Earthquake 2011: Survivors Share 'Miracle' Stories." The Huffington Post.

"A Harrowing Tsunami Survival Story from Japan," via The Rachel Maddow Show.

"'Fukishima 50' Risk Their Lives To Prevent Nuclear Meltdown," via The Huffington Post.

"Why is there no looting in Japan?" By Ed West, The Telegraph.

At least 5 reasons to be hopeful.

Do you have another?  Feel free to comment.

Work of (f)Art: The Next Great "Art Pussy."

Ok, let me be very clear: I am totally against Bravo's art miscreation Work Of Art: The Next Great Artist.  However, while I boycott the show, reading the recap blogs are one of my favorite things to do on Thursdays.  If you've missed them, check out ARTINFO's , where they say: "Finally (China) Chow claims, 'the only rule in art is what works, and your piece didn’t.' Stop trying to steal Tim Gunn’s slogan and then messing it up!'"  And then Jerry Saltz's blog at New York Magazine, where he says Erik's "art pussy" comment "will haunt him in the art world. Maybe he should make like Raskolnikov in Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment and publicly confess. Go to MoMA; shout into the Yoko Ono microphone now in the atrium, 'I am an art pussy.' Maybe he should have Nao and Judith spelling the words 'PROUD PUSSY' backward in brown liquid. Jamie-Lynn could sweetly dance, and Trong could tell people who Tom Freidman is. John and Amanda could turn it all into an abstract book cover."  By far these are the best things to come out of this show.

You know what . . .

. . . hey, I am all about fashion.  I'm gay, it's in my genes, I can't help it.  However, when your coat looks like it was designed by Lord Voldemort on a meth binge at a rave, I draw the line.
